Fiery Throated Humming Bird

Tiny, brilliantly colored iridescent jewel - this small humming bird or "colibri" ,Panterpe insignis, was perched on the outside of a restaurant window in the Cerro de la Muerte, Costa Rica's second highest mountain. The cloud forests of the Cerro are full of humming birds of many species. This one spent quite a bit of time studying me and my food and seemed to be sending a telepathic message that it wanted to be fed as well.:
